NGOs Week 2024

Celebrating Peace and Unity.

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, NGOs Week reached a pinnacle of excitement and camaraderie with a series of events aimed at fostering peace and unity. The highlight of the day was the Peace Walk, which saw hundreds of participants marching together, symbolizing solidarity and a shared commitment to a harmonious future. The walk, which spanned several miles, was a powerful statement of the collective desire for global peace and cooperation.

Following the Peace Walk, the atmosphere turned festive with the Football and Peace Tournament. Teams from various NGOs and local communities competed in friendly matches, demonstrating sportsmanship and the unifying power of football. The tournament not only showcased athletic talent but also reinforced the message that peace and understanding can be promoted through sports.

These events underscored the importance of collaboration and the role of NGOs in advocating for peace. As the sun set on this vibrant day, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to continue working towards a peaceful and united world.

Tree Planting in Nandi County.

On Friday, June 21, 2024, NGOs Week concluded with a significant environmental initiative in Nandi County. Volunteers from various NGOs and local communities gathered to participate in a large-scale tree-planting event. This initiative aimed to combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability in the region.

Participants planted thousands of trees throughout the day, transforming a barren landscape into a budding forest. The event highlighted the importance of reforestation efforts and the role of trees in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and supporting local ecosystems.

This tree-planting event not only contributed to the environmental health of Nandi County but also served as a powerful reminder of the impact that collective action can have on our planet. Collaborative Event for Women's Health and Education.

On Thursday, 13th of June 2024, a significant event focusing on women’s health and education occurred at the Regional Headquarters Office in Komora Estate, Eldoret, Kenya. The event was a collaborative effort between Marie Stoppes Kenya and Amot Girls Foundation to promote health within our communities.

Prominent South Sudanese community leaders in Eldoret attended the event, highlighting the strong communal support and the importance of cross-cultural collaboration in health and education initiatives.

Marie Stoppes Kenya provided essential medical check-ups, ensuring attendees had access to vital health services. This initiative underscored the importance of regular health screenings and proactive health management.

Amot Girls Foundation emphasized educational empowerment, offering resources and guidance to enhance the educational opportunities for women in the community. Their participation was crucial in advocating for the importance of education as a cornerstone for community development.

Tree Planting Initiative in Eldoret, Kenya: A Green Endeavor

Eldoret, Kenya – On a sunny morning last year, June 5, 2023, the picturesque town of Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County, Sub County Moiben. witnessed a remarkable tree-planting initiative. The event, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, aimed to contribute to the 15 billion national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program. Eldoret, known for its lush landscapes and vibrant community, played host to this significant endeavor.

A Collaborative Effort

The tree planting program brought together various stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and county government officials. Their joint efforts symbolized a commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. The event commenced promptly at 8:00 am and continued until the evening hours, with participants working tirelessly to enhance the green cover of Eldoret.

Distinguished Guests

The chief guest for the day was none other than Governor, His Excellency Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim , whose passion for environmental stewardship has been evident throughout his tenure. His presence underscored the importance of such initiatives in creating a greener and healthier future for the region. Alongside him, members of the Amot Girls Foundation lent their support, demonstrating that environmental responsibility knows no gender boundaries.

Empowering NGOs: Training Induction in Uasin Gishu, Eldoret, Kenya. (County Hall) DAY 2

Eldoret, Kenya – On the second day of a transformative training program, NGO board members from across the country converged in the vibrant town of Eldoret. The event, held on June 6, 2023, aimed to equip these dedicated individuals with essential knowledge and skills for effective governance and management.

Board of Directors Unite
The NGO Board of Directors, hailing from Nairobi and guided by the North Rift Office Officer, Madam Carol, delved into critical aspects of their roles.

The training covered a comprehensive range of topics, ensuring that board members were well-versed in the intricacies of NGO operations.

Key Training Areas

1. Working System for NGOs Board Office: Participants explored the practical functioning of the board office, understanding its day-to-day operations and coordination.

2. Rules and Regulations: A deep dive into legal frameworks and compliance requirements provided clarity on the board’s responsibilities.

3. Filing of Annual Returns: Board members learned the importance of timely submission of annual reports and financial statements.

4. Registration Process for New NGOs: The intricacies of NGO registration were demystified, empowering participants to guide new organizations through the process.

5. NGOs Constitution: Understanding the constitution’s provisions and implications was crucial for effective decision-making.

6. Payment of E- Citizens: Participants explored digital platforms for efficient payment processes.

7. Changing of Board of Directors in Management: The training addressed the dynamics of board transitions, emphasizing continuity and smooth leadership changes.

A Day of Learning and Collaboration The training induction commenced promptly at 9:00 am within the dignified halls of the County Hall in Eldoret Town. Throughout the day, board members engaged in interactive sessions, sharing experiences, and gaining insights from their peers. The commitment to excellence was palpable as they absorbed knowledge that would shape their organizations’ futures.

As the clock struck 5:00 pm, the training concluded, leaving behind a network of empowered leaders ready to steer NGOs toward impactful change. Eldoret, with its lush greenery and community spirit, provided the ideal backdrop for this transformative endeavor.

Bringing Comfort and Care: Orphanage Visit in Eldoret.

Eldoret, Kenya – On the third day of their impactful journey, the NGO Board of Directors and other officials embarked on a heartfelt mission to bring solace and support to the young souls residing in Eldoret’s orphanage centers. The date was June 7, 2023, and the venue was the serene Kapsaret sub-county.

A Day of Compassion

As the sun cast its warm glow upon the rolling hills of Kapsaret, the team arrived, laden with essential supplies. Their purpose was clear: to alleviate the hardships faced by the orphans who call these centers home. Among the items they carried were:

1. Tissues:
For wiping away tears and comforting little hearts.

2. White Flour:
A staple for nourishing meals.

3. Soaps:
To cleanse both body and spirit.

4. Mattresses, Beds, Bedsheets, and Blankets:
Providing a soft cocoon of rest and warmth.

A Collective Effort

The board members and officials worked seamlessly, distributing these provisions with care. Each mattress placed, each blanket unfolded, carried a message of hope. The children, their eyes wide with curiosity, watched as their world transformed, one gift at a time.
